Monday evening I receive a call from a legal representative of Sony Pictures, He briefly tells me they would like to use an image of one of my works in a movie, details to follow in an email. I receive an email with an attached release form. I'm expecting an offer of some compensation for the use of my work. There is none, only a release form. I send back an email expressing my flattery at the proposition of my work appearing in a feature film and my disappointment that I am not offered any compensation. Three days later I receive another call stating that most people are happy for the exposure and sign off with out compensation. I say that I am unaccustomed to releasing my work without some compensation, even if it be only a token amount. I suggest a number and am told by their agent that he will contact the producers who might pay me or tell me to kiss off. He says it might take a day or two before he can give me a response. About an hour later he calls back and tells me they will pay (through out this exchange, I am sleeping), he emails me the contract, I sign.
Next I write a press release and distribute it to the local and Hispanic media. I, hopefully, get the "Local Connection to Hollywood story on page two of the Saturday Arts and Entertainment section and some internet buzz.
Sound like a plan?
I try in the mean time, I keep my day job.

March 07,2009
Until today not much has happened. I received payment from Sony Pictures weeks ago (that money is long gone). I've just been carrying on, business as usual, until today. Today I made the front page of the Saginaw News.
This happened kind of by chance. I was taking a class last Saturday and in talking with this young guy I mentioned the mask and the movie, he said he had a friend who did some writing for the Saginaw News who might be interested in doing a story. The friend called on Wednesday, I meet with a photographer yesterday, front page today. I've already had a call from a gallery wanting to exhibit my work. I'll be meeting with that guy in the next few days. Hopefully I'll exhibit some of my paintings and other work as well.
Although this was all the result of a chance encounter, it is what I had planned on doing. I'll still write a press release and try to get some broader exposure. I don't see this as that big a deal, but its a start. I've just got to develop it into more.

i enjoy your work
